A progressive evaluation system for superior thinking, teamwork, and communication under pressure.
Unlike conventional debate competitions, the Verbattle format progressively evaluates teams through multiple levels, each demanding increasing standards of preparation, adaptability, analytical ability, teamwork, and responsible communication.
A personal invitation from the Founder and Chief, Mr. Deepak Thimaya, is sent to the heads of thousands of educational institutions introducing Verbattle, its philosophy, objectives, and educational purpose.
Members of the Verbattle Telecalling Team contact institutions to confirm receipt of the invitation, answer queries, provide clarifications, and offer any additional information required regarding participation.
Interested schools identify students suitable to participate in Verbattle. Each participating school appoints a Mentor Teacher who serves as the principal point of contact between the school, participants, and Verbattle throughout the competition.
Schools complete the registration process with the assistance of the Verbattle Team. Relevant information, publicity material, application details, and learning resources are made available to participating institutions.
Where considered necessary, the Chief Mentor or an authorised Verbattle Resource Person conducts a complimentary Orientation Session for participating students and Mentor Teachers to explain the Verbattle format, preparation methods, judging parameters, and competition expectations.
Each level tests deeper abilities. Early rounds test preparedness and expression. Later rounds test adaptability, depth, teamwork, pressure-handling, and intellectual maturity.
Each zone receives approximately 20 intellectually provocative Verbattle debate statements about one week before. Each debate consists of three teams with two speakers each. Best team from each debate qualifies for State-Level.
Ideally 81 teams, resulting in 27 debates and 27 qualifying teams. Approximately 27 debate statements announced 36-48 hours before. Judges independently evaluate each team based upon the Verbattle Essentials.
Identifies the strongest teams from Skirmish. Three teams per debate. Each team receives one minute per speaking round. Debates consist of approximately five rounds. Best teams qualify for Confrontation.
Further evaluates highest-performing teams. Competition continues in three-team format with five rounds. Optional Mentor Question Round or Audience Question Round may be conducted. Best teams qualify for Face Off.
Final stage. Each team draws one statement and keeps it confidential for 45 minutes, then reveals to other teams. Three debates conducted with all teams proposing and opposing. Aggregate score determines the Verbattle Champion.
Society rarely presents issues as two neat opposing sides. A three-team format forces participants to listen, respond, compare, adjust, and think beyond binary argumentation.
Designed to provoke thought, not merely opinion. They compel participants to examine assumptions, biases, social beliefs, moral contradictions, and competing truths.
Participants prepare both for and against statements. Real thinking begins when one can understand an argument even without personally agreeing with it.
Statements are allotted by lot to ensure fairness and prevent over-rehearsed performance. Tests breadth of preparation, alertness, adaptability, and presence of mind.
Each level tests deeper abilities. Ensures that the winning team is not merely good in one debate, but consistently strong across changing conditions.
The Verbattle Debate Competition is not merely an elimination tournament. It is a progressive evaluation system designed to identify teams capable of demonstrating quality thinking, adaptability, teamwork, responsible communication, knowledge, leadership, and intellectual maturity under progressively demanding conditions.
Each successive level evaluates participants more comprehensively than the previous one, ensuring that advancement reflects not merely speaking ability but the overall qualities expected of a true Verbattle team.
Registration opens several weeks before each competition season. Schools can register up to five teams per category.
